Chaarana Labs reimagined Kerala’s legendary Chundan Vallam (snake boat) races and the Vallasadhya feast tradition as an immersive, cinematic experience for the Indian Music Experience Museum.

Capturing the Races

The team traveled to Kerala’s riverbanks and built a custom 180° camera rig to capture the intensity of the boat races — the oar rhythms, rower calls, and water in motion. A dedicated post-production pipeline stitched, graded, and stabilized the ultra-wide footage while preserving detail and a sense of presence.

Storytelling and Cultural Context

Beyond the races, the team documented the surrounding cultural traditions — the elaborate Vallasadhya feast and related festival performances — using these as narrative touchpoints within the app to help visitors understand the significance and heritage behind what they’re seeing.

Built for the Museum Floor

Because the piece runs in a high-traffic museum setting, the experience needed to hold up under heavy daily use, be simple for staff to manage, and be approachable for visitors of any age. This drove iterative on-site testing and optimization of media and interaction flow for reliable, at-scale deployment.
